The Gasparilla season is upon us here in Tampa Town. What is Gasparilla? Google, my friends. Tomorrow the Dread Pirate Couch and the winsome wench EvilE will be invading with our Krewe of Seville.

This photo shows how sneaky pirates can be.

Brrr…it’s raining iguanas in chilly Florida

The Miami Herald says it’s raining iguanas in Florida.

“When the temperature falls below a certain level, the large green lizards drop out of the trees and litter the ground,” the paper reports.

The animals are hibernating because of the sudden onset of cold weather in the Sunshine State. ”We have found dozens on the bike path after a major cold snap,” Robert Yero, park manager at Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park on Key Biscayne, tells the paper. “When they warm up in the sun, they come back to life.”

Diabetes Research

Posted in Uncategorized on 13.01.09

Dear Friend,
Please join me, Victor Crist and the University of South Florida in raising awareness and generating grassroots support for USF’s outstanding research in diabetes and autoimmune disorders and for the advancement of needed integrated clinical care.

Currently, there are 23.6 million children and adults in the United States, or 7.8% of our overall population, who have been diagnosed with diabetes. This includes 10.4% Hispanics and 14.7% African-Americans over the age of 20.

Researchers through USF are focused on finding a cause, preventing, and curing this often debilitating disease.

I am trying to help “spread the word” to as many of my friends as possible to garner support for bringing more of this worldwide research and clinical care home to Florida. Please visit the website below and show your support by adding your name and e-mail address to our list: “Friends of USF Diabetes Research and Treatment”.

We are looking for “friends” not funds. Please forward this message and website to your family, friends and colleagues. Through a unified effort, we can advance this good cause.

Sincerely,
Victor Crist
